Aligning Goals with Your Strategy for 2025

One significant organizational challenge we’re observing is that our clients often lack the resources to offer the necessary training for their employees to establish and align their goals with the 2025 strategy. For some, this issue stems from insufficient time or the absence of content experts to deliver the training. For others, it’s about not knowing how to begin.

Here’s how we do it at Statice:
Start with why! Developing goals and setting performance expectations with employees go hand in hand. However, you have to start with answering the question, “Why is what you are doing important to the team and the company?”

Then, communicate how they will learn and grow as a result of accomplishing this goal.

Be mindful of these possible challenges when establishing goals with employees:

  • Employees may have an overwhelming number of goals or lack proper prioritization.

  • Goals may be unrealistic in light of the available resources, budget, and time.

  • Goals might frequently shift, leading to a perception that they lack significance.

  • The business environment is continuously evolving, rendering the goals irrelevant.

  • The manager may not have collaborated with the employee to outline actionable steps for achieving the goals.

The key to success lies in consistent follow-up. Regularly checking in with your team is essential within your performance management cycle. This follow-up allows you to engage employees in meaningful discussions about their progress towards goals and outcomes, while also offering you valuable feedback. Use open-ended follow-up questions to collect information that can help you assess whether your employees require additional training or support to achieve their goals and meet expectations.

Sample follow-up questions might include:

  • What do you feel you have been doing well this week/month?

  • What challenges or obstacles have you encountered this week/month?

  • What solutions have you considered to help remove those challenges or obstacles?

  • Is there any area of this business that you would like additional training on? How do you think that will help you?

Seeking assistance? Our workshop, “Setting and Aligning Goals with Strategy,” equips your managers with the skills to establish collaborative, SMART goals that employees are more dedicated to achieving.
