Guiding a client through significant issues in their lives requires a coach to draw upon just the right methods, expertise and problem-solving skills in each unique case; when it all comes together, a coaching engagement can have exponentially positive outcomes.

4. Modeled Key Frameworks For Providing Feedback
One challenging situation clients face is providing feedback to others. To overcome this, we start by discussing why they’re not giving feedback and the impact it has on the other person, the team and the business. Then, we walk through the conversation using techniques such as COIN (Context, Observation, Impact and Next steps) or Crucial Conversations’ STATE technique so that they have a framework to communicate feedback in a way that gets the results they want. For example, with the STATE method, the client will Share their facts (“I noticed…”), Tell their story (“I’m beginning to wonder if…”), Ask about the other person’s path (“What are your intentions?”), Talk tentatively (“I’m beginning to wonder…”), and Encourage testing (“Do you see it differently?”). — Kathleen Shanley, Statice
